Electric fan option -Ford Fusion
IIR, mine was model 16796 (still available today on Amazon), but the new model looks to be a bit improved? Looks like the new model has a 20 sec shut off timer when the engine shuts off, while mine will just keep running as long it needs. I used to worry about that draining my battery, but it's been well over a year now, and I've never had a problem. I find it also has the benefits of eliminating any and all heat soak from the engine after shut off, as my fans keep running and cooling the engine via thermal conductivity.
What model you use is entirely up to you, but for myself, I kinda like the old model that lets the fans run when the engine is off. Only real tip I could offer, no matter which model you use, is to mount the temp sensor on the water pump inlet neck. Zip tie and tape it on both, and you'll get the quickest and most reliable readings to control the fans with the least lag time to turn them on/off.
Other than that, I would say this has been one of my favorite mods on my D2, fixed soooo many issues the thing had, for cheap, and has been incredibly reliable, couldn't be happier

Received my fan today! Looks like I'll need to do some trimming on the wire harness that came with it to leave behind just the 4 leads from the fans. Did you end up just teeing the two signal wires together and then grounding the fan grounds to a body location? The diagram for the Derale controller (16797) shows to link up the two signal/positive wires into their blue wire so I'm debating cutting off the existing plug to the fans and then adding a connector to do that. Going to try and tackle the install after work today!
I didn't have that info when I did mine either, so I just powered up the fans with a car battery I had laying around to figure out polarity, by making sure the fans were spinning the correct way to move air. Make sense?
I dug into some ford diagrams. For anyone that uses the ford fan, the ground wires are black on one fan and yellow with orange stripe on the second. Pretty easy to wire up once I figured that out too.
Just finished my swap. Best mod ever, this should be a sticky.
Im using flex a lite digital controller and it's working great.
i have couple of questions: can anyone tell me the code for the Ford fan connector. I went with a fresh fan and it didn't come with any wiring. I bought 2 sets of pigtails which according to the parts store were the correct type and none of them work.
I'm sure it's somewhere in this thread but im looking for a ignition on power source for the controller. Is the only option to run a wire through the firewall from the interior fuse box?

I'm sorry, I do not know the plug style or code for the Ford fan connector as I sourced mine from a salvage yard and it came with the wire harness. That might be valuable info for those buying aftermarket units though, so if you do figure it out feel free to post it here to help future modders.
There should be lots of ignition on power sources in the fuse box in the engine bay, should be no need to go thru the firewall. I would just test a few circuits at the fuses and pick one that works. I assume your controller needs a key on signal for a timer feature? Mine just wired straight to the battery, and needed no key on signal as it has no timer.
Hello,
I guess I will need to open up the engine bay fusebox and do some digging. I just tapped into one of the fuses for now, but they are all energized even with the ignition off.
On the other hand, has anyone run into clearance issues with the inline thermostat? I will need to relocate mine closer to the radiator inlet, but was wondering if anyone else has done this.
Thank you

I picked up switch power in the engine bay box. I believe it was a 10 or 15a fuse at F2 @miron
Are you mounting a sensor closer to the inlet? I had mine orignally mounted to the inline tstat housing but I moved it to the end tank since I have an Alisport rad with ALU end tanks and just enough flatness to foil tape the sensor there.

Thank you! F2 worked (I went through all the fuses except F1 and F2 and of course those are the ignition on ones lol).
Right now i have the sensor in the inline t-stat, but I'm issues with clearance, so i will be switching to inline sensor port and moving the tstat somewhere closer to the radiator inlet.
