Empty motorway at 4AM would never be a concern. At 35MPH you get full airflow through the radiator to cool things even in the hottest climate. Genuine problem would be congestion on the M62 in West Yorkshire. Then you're cooked.

If you switch A/C on the condenser cooling fan spins which would provide some airflow, but I'm not sure if it would be enough to save your bacon.

Are these systems hooked up to the A/C compressor to come on while idling at a stop sign?
I did this modification on a 99 Silverado 2500 with a 6.0 gasser, and had to wire a relay to the A/C to turn the fans on because at every stop light the a/c blew hot air.

Getting pretty tempted. Especially with a brand new Airtex water pump and a brand new radiator. Sure would be nice not to have to worry about that fan clutch failing or bumper to bumper traffic on a 100 degree day...

Well, maybe I'll see if it runs after this camshaft bearing replacement debacle. Then perhaps I'll pull the trigger on this mod.

you will want to power the fan not the compressor, if you power the compressor you are adding heat load

it wire works as a signal that ac is on. for extra cooling while cooling. i did not use it as such. i have it with signal from a switch, so i can turn it on at anytime.....(thinking is that if i ever have a temp sensor malfunction, in the controller, i can just use the switch to override and make the fan come on)
I also have a master shut off switch to kill it for h2o crossing.

Not if you use the stock water pump and drive it with a 12 volt motor.

the set up works great. but in the spirit of messing with stuff that works fine, i'm in the process of fitting a new engine along with a triple pass 31x19 (standard gm size) radiator. the fan shroud fits the radiator well, but I plan to extend top and bottom just a tad so that the fans will be better centered

I got mine in today. It took me a little longer than you to install but I was done in an hour. I got the large single fan setup and WOW it moves a lot of air reasonably quietly.

Dusty how did you decide to set the temperature? I watched my scanner and when it got to 199 I turned the dial slightly for the fan to come on and it quickly went down to 189. I don't want it running all of the time. My truck is normally at 195 or 196 with A/C on.
