Default Electrical Issue

A co workers discovery 2 (2002, about 100k miles) is having some kind of electrical issue where the truck is shutting off randomly. Dealership is trying to get $900 to replace the fuse block under the steering wheel. Now I know it can be replaced for much cheaper but does that sound like a reasonable solution to the problem?

FYI the daughter driving the vehicle put on the hazards when it shut down, went to pull off onto the side of the road and when Road1 came to get her she couldn't turn off the hazards. They recently had a new ignition for the key installed.

Also it drove for about 1/4 mile before cutting out.

When it shuts off, does it start back up if allowed to cool off for a long time? That could be the crank position sensor. A simple test is to put a spark plug on one of the plug wires you remove, and test for spark when cranking. You have plenty of giant u-pull-da-partz salavge yards, would not pay $900 for a fuse block.

It doesn't start back up, cranks over but it seems like there is no spark

Cranking without spark is a strong symptom of CKP sensor, you can speed up the cool down by pouring cold water on the sensor.

When failing it begins to act up. When finally failed, it won't make spark. It is a coil of wire, so an ohm meter should show something.

How would i test the sensor? Can I pull it out and run it on my multimeter?

Also just as a note, the dealer (AUTOHAUS) said that is was the interior fuse box? Which I found rather odd.
