Default Emergency Brake cable reconnection.

Ok this is kicking my butt, did a cdl cable install on my 2000 disco. Wrapping it up and came to the reconnecting part of E-brake. Can’t seem to get this metal connecting rod thing from the push button out of the way to reconnect cable. I am at a loss. Help! Haha

Rod in way of cable

Okay you can try several things to get that pin back into it's slot.

Option 1:

Loosen the Ebrake Cable tension (big nut on the cable assembly) unit you have enough slack to get the pin into position. Then re-adjust the cable so the Ebrake holds on 3 clicks.

Option 2:

Take a #1 or #2 Phillips Head Screw Driver and insert it into one side of the Ebrake Handle (with the handle down), the try to get the Ebrake Cable eyelet to raise up enough so that you can get the pin started. Then if your lucky the pin will slide in and all you have to do is secure it with the little clip and call it a day.

Looks like the pushbutton on the ebrake handle is stuck. What happens when you hold the handle and push the button? A spring should cause the button to pop out again? Is the spring disconnected? Can you get a screwdriver in there to lever it out of the way and pop the button back out?

After the rod is out of the way, I've used Option 2 described by Best4x4 to reattach the cable.

Yeah usually when that little bar gets in the way it's caused by the Ebrake Button sticking. You should eventually get it to move out of the way if you push in the Ebrake Button.

That Linkage/Bar should be up inside the Ebrake assembly vs being down toward the bottom.

Right at the location of the Ebrake Pin take a flat blade screw driver and push on the rod/linkage (riveted in piece) and it should pop back up into position.

Thanks I’m trying everything, fighting the voices in my head that are saying to get the saw-z-all and lop the whole thing off!

I GOT IT! I saw that the higher the handle was raised the closer it was getting. Unbolted the four screws holding down console so I could over extend the handle and bam! Thanks, that sucker was kicking my butt!

Man oh man what a fiasco, super simple on the 04 cdl swap, rivet everything in place in record time and e-brake kicks my butt.
