In your area, where temps are modest in winter. For the guys in the frozen north, the 5W40 sys will work better in winter. My high miles unit was sounding like a bag of wrenches on cold mornings, the 5W40 stopped that, and the oil light goes out before any of the others on start up.

I use them on my waste oil heater in the shop, 230 gallons this winter and its still filtering.

Yeah my shop is in Long Branch, Stop by next time your down,
5 Corners Auto Repair, 80 North Broadway, Long Branch

Any auto parts store can get them. With my commercial account and buying 12 at a time I pay $5.20 per filter.
Mann is the filter I buy for my S4 and my previous Audi (canister style drop in). I always heard they were the best, and they do a great job on those cars.
Will for sure drop in if I'm in the area. Would be good to get another set of eyes on a couple issues.

I just picked up the only Mann filter of this size in stock at Advance in Savannah. It was not on display, and was sitting in the back. The box was shelf worn, and the red Purolator logo faded out. Filter inside nice and new. $8. They must not move very often. They did say they can get them usually in a day or so. So the on-line inventory worked this time for Advance (you can see their stock and price from home before making a run into town from the ranch). Can't wait to put this honken' thing on the Disco. Will post pix so people can judge clearance for themselves. Box says made in Mexico (I think that is just the box) and filter says made in Germany.

The only one I could find in Phoenix is at the McDowell Rd Pep-boys, so I am off to pick it up and slap in on this weekend. Only other option was paying 16.95 on advanced and having it shipped.

You boys who are putting them on, would love to see before/after oil pressure tests too. I'm thinking that since I'm giving the M1 5W40 turbo diesel oil a try for the temps, having a bit more filtering could help.

Should there be one of those "YOUR RESULTS MAY VARY" disclaimers on this thread?

I don't know if it matters, but the stock filter relief valve setting it 8-11psi and the Purolator L40316 is 36psi.

I was wondering about that, Tom. I know if the pressure rating is very low, the oil filter can go into bypass mode when you might not want it to, and basically pass the oil along with no filtering. But would the reverse be true, a higher pressure would keep filtering even if filter was a little more gunked up? Was hoping to get some feedback on that.

Her's a site with lots of comparisons of popular filters, and dismantled ones pictured. http://parts.olathetoyota.com/tacoma...omparison.html
