Default Engine

I gave up trying to fix my 2000 Disco's overheating engine so I bought a use engine out of a 2001 Disco 77,000 miles. Since it's sitting in my garage I figure now is the time to do any repairs and updates on it. I'm looking for suggestions as to what should be replaced, checked, or improved, if more than one suggestion please list priority first. Thanks

I would change the timing kit, water pump, t-stat..Better to do it now while the motor is out, it will be much easier..

Do the head gaskets and plugs and wires, then drop it in and go.

Change the front and rear main seals as well. Much easier to get to with the engine out.

Oh yeah...spark plugs too. The rest of the advice from the other guys is spot on too.

Everything as mentioned so far, except the timing chain which is not needed for another 100,000 miles plus.
Add new plugs and 8 mm wires, an up-dated upper radiator hose that has the bleed screw in the black tee not the hose, and a bottle of either Water Wetter or Purple Ice to the coolant, and a front tranny seal. Make sure
For the fun things, a 4.6 cam with heavier springs for better performance and a CDL linkage so you can enjoy all the extra traction.

If it kept overheating you may want to have your rad checked so you don't have the same problems all over again!

Thanks, My list looks like this, head gasgets, water pump, t-stat, seals, plugs wires, rad checked, updated bleed hose, I've never done a front gasget seal and I'm not familiar with CDL linkage can you give me how to do advice? How much more HP and or Torque would a 4.6 cam and stiffer springs give me? Also, what about oil pan gasgets, lifter, rods, or how ofter do those crank and cam shaft sensor go? Thanks, again.

The 4.6 guts wont do you a lick of good without a 4.6 ECU.
Cam sensor lasts forever, crank sensor goes every 70k or so.

Oil pan gasket, RTV it and forget it.
