I have a 1999 discovery 2 with about 130,000 miles and the engine cut off driving, got it towed to the house and replaced the ckp sensor and it still would not start, so i Took it to a local service station so they could put it on a diagnostics machine and they told me that the lower half of the engine seized up. how do they see that running diagnostics, is it common and how does it happen, they didn't seem to know that much. It just doesn't sound right. Can someone give me some insight.

So, you can answer that question, after installing a new sensor, would the engine turn over at it's normal speed and sound, just not start?
Sounds like they are looking at you to pay for their summer vacation.

 

You will know if the engine seized, for starters it will not turn over or crank at all. Plus you should have heard some serious noise when it did so. If the engine will crank but not fire then you just need to keep looking. It could be blown fuse for the fuel pump for all you know. I say to bring it back home or take it to another shop and get another opinion.

 

Yeah you would not have just replaced the crank sensor if it was seized.
You would have asked about this first.
