Default Engine Changes?

So I've heard of people putting the 300TDI into a previously V8 Disco I, but has anyone done any other major engine swaps in their Discovery I/II? Anyone know if one of the new modern (read: ones with horsepower) will fit? Say the one from a totalled RR Sport?

For the most part, most US engine with horse power are too heavy and the power train won't handle over 250 HP.

You've piqued my interest here--I believe I'd rather have the TDI than the V8, but so far haven't seen any TDIs available in the US (I'm in California and haven't been looking that long.) I'm curious as to how painful a swap it would be to go from V8 to TDI--I imagine there's a certain amount of electronic gimcrackery involved.

I also imagine there are some issues with EPA/CARB...

Beside being very costly, for the engine, tranny fuel system, Ecu and wiring, you have to get around the state of Calif. They are not big on those conversions and if you were able to do the swap, you would still have to get past the EPA.

There is a company down under that sells kits for putting a Chev 350 in there and I am told the drivetrain will handle it and there might even be a slight mileage improvement. http://www.marks4wd.com/RR-Chevy-V6-V8.html

Sadly ECR has decided not to work on Discovery anymore. They are focusing on Defenders now as they are too busy.

Just order a motor and everything and put it in or have someone else do it.
If you are going to get in to the horse power game its a DIY thing.
Not smart to not work on Discovery's as Disco's out number Defenders
a 100's to 1.
