We did this with a 15 year old Jetta when I worked at the VW dealer and tore down the engine. It was immaculate inside. The can itself recommends running the vehicle for 20 minutes at 2k RPM's however if you have a really neglected engine do what I say.

I have actually experienced 40 more mpt during this process and am only a week away from doing my oil change.

BG makes great products... their gear oil is awesome. the brake dressing is awesome!

I swear by BG products and use them in my own shop.

I am a 20 plus year believer/user of many of the B&G products and machines with great results.

so Gunk makes an additive that you put in with your oil, run it for a while then change the oil, is that a good idea?
I have just read things about if I do too much of a clean all at once I might discover some oil leaks that were clogged before. I don't know the history of the oil changes and don't want a bigger problem than I can handle all at once. this weekend I will for sure be changing the oil and I was thinking of using the gunk product, changing the oil and filter with cheaper ones, than in 1000 miles doing another oil change and going to synthetic and a much better filter. any suggestions?

why go from gunk to crappy oil and filter?

why not straight from gunk to syn?

I was thinking cheaper oil and filter to help clean the engine out a little more after the gunk, and then after a little driving (500-1000 miles) re-change the oil to synthetic and high end filter for a normal oil change cycle.
No?

Just go straight to synthetic. Then do another change after 500-1000 miles. (Depending on how much you drive).
