Default Engine Identification Number on 2003 4.6?

I want to be certain the engine in the 2003 I have isn't one with misaligned dowel pins. Is there a place I can find an engine identification number that I can use to research this?

Engine serial is on the left side middle if the block you should be able to see it through exhaust manifold, not sure how much help it will be. I never could find the serial for my 2004 4.6 on any of the lists, the original issue was id'd by vehicle VIN. perhaps LR could tell you if your had an engine replacement based on VIN.

2003 Disocovery Series II vin#: 3A771801-3A808362 that is the failure vin range

If you have an 03 that wasn't recalled = would be a miracle. To remove the dowl pins they'll either twist out with a good pair of locking plyers or you can drill a small hole completely thru the dowl and spray some penetrating lube and then it'll simply twist out. I use that technique on the back dowl pins.

If it was me personally and the D2 was running good with no oil pressure issues I'd just slap a new set of gears into the original cover along with a new back plate & put it back together (if that cover goes back on easily).

Oh geez, sorry must have missed that, in that case go ahead and remove the dowls and install new ones. They usually twist out but might require drilling em out.

I have 2 parts trucks (both 03's) and the engines are both complete, I could probably pull one off if ya needed an OEM cover. Sorry you are having so much trouble I feel ya as the 95 project I got earlier this year didn't want to agree with me on a single repair I did to it!!!
