Default engine noise

So I noticed a bit of engine noise when I arrived at work this afternoon. Just started the truck and it seems to only happen when it's warm. I know it's the bottom end. Noise seems to go away after 1000rpm. Can't hear it while driving.. only at idle. I did just change the oil.. q-state high mile 10/30 and 1 qt Lucas Oil. Mobile1 filter. 138k.

As far as I know it's not been overheated, it does run hotter than I want it to.. but it's still around 200, give or take a few degrees.

When I serviced the timing cover oil pump Han no signs of stress or cracking. That was 2000 miles ago.

Thoughts? Heavier oil maybe?

Describe the noise a little more, a knocking, ticking, what?

In my opinion 10w-30 is too thin at high temps for the disco. I've run it in my truck and I didn't like it at all.
I would try and switch to something in the 40's for the higher temp protection. I have been running Valvoline Maxlife 10w-40 high mileage for the winter and it has done great. As the outside temps get higher down here I switch to 15w-40 because it seems to help my oil pressure on those really hot summer days.
I know 10w-40 and 15w-40 should preform the same at high temps, but the oil pressure gauge doesn't lie. I will stay around 18psi at idle on really hot days with the the 15w-40, and only 10psi with the 10w-40. During the cooler months the 10w-40 stays around 12psi at idle and runs great, but it can't hang with these Texas summers.

That kinda worries me.. hasn't been hotter than 70* here in dirty jersey. And I have heard plenty of other cars make this noise and go for long periods of time. Just never one of my vehicles.
Even though I just had the oil changed.. I will probably put the 15/40 in. See if it quiets down.

Seems every time I rid the disco of one noise.. One worse seems to show up. Lol
That would be land rover law though right?

Not so quick grasshoppa, you are just refining your Rover senses... You have now learned to listen as your truck tells you exactly how it feels.

Good catch, try the Rotella 15w40 and report back.

I run 10w30. My old lifters like it and allow better oil flow, but I do change to 15w45 summer fwiw. I think if you just put thicker oil in its just masking the noise more than anything. Post the video first.

Thanks dave.. I kinda wish it would say "no thanks.. I feel great"... lol

Dane.. video as soon as I get home around 5a.m. thanks for the suggestions.

I will more than likely dump the oil and refill it with some fresh rotella like I should have done in the first place. I just hope it isn't damaged to the point of disassembly.

jared.. was it noisy? what didnt you like about the 10/30?

Little update. Noise still there with 5qts of retell a 15/40, 1 qt Lucas oil.

Do I start saving for a new engine now or be prepared to eat the 3k i paid for it and what I have put into it, and scrap it when the bottom end gives out.

Little mad at rover right now. End rant.
