Default engine swap

I just did an engine swap on my 02 Disco 2 4.0 v8. everything hooked up fine but i cant get it to turn over with the key. i tried the inertia switch, hoooking up a cable with a push button on it to the starter, it turned over that way. it wont come out of park either. is there something that has to be reset? possibly with the factory alarm system? any help would be greatly appreciated..............Bret

Well the most common reason it wouldn't come out of park on many cars is that the switch that turns the brake lights on is bad. Can you verify that your brake lights come on?

We probably need more details about the no start issue. Does it not crank (in other words, turn over) at all? Or does it crank (turn over) but not actually start and run? Any sounds? Clicking, etc? Any funny lights on on the dash like a solid red or blinking red LED?

the brake llights wont come on unless the key is turned on. and when the key is turned on i get a light that looks like two gears meshed together with an x through them and an audible alarm with it. it wont turn over at all when the key is turned but i do hear a series of clicks, but cant tell where they come from. in short im stuck in park and wont turn over........Bret

Transfer case in neutral = that light on. two gears meshed together with an x through them

From RAVE Owner's manual (you know you want one! - free below)

Illuminates when the transfer
gearbox is in neutral. It will only
extinguish when the transfer
gearbox is engaged (either ‘High’ or ‘Low’
range) or when the vehicle is being towed and
the ignition is in key position 2 with the transfer
gearbox in neutral.

LED:

from RAVE workshop manual -

A Light Emitting Diode (LED) situated in the instrument cluster indicates the condition of the anti-theft system and acts
as a warning to potential thieves that the alarm system is activated.
Input/Output
The LED has a dedicated signal from the BCU to indicate the status of the following:
l
Alarm armed: The LED flashes at 10 Hz with a 50:50 duty cycle for 10 seconds, after which the LED flashes 50
ms on, 2 seconds off until the state of the system changes.

l
Engine immobilised: If the engine is immobilised and the ignition is on, the LED is illuminated continuously. If the
engine is immobilised and the ignition is off, the LED flashes 50 ms on, 2 seconds off.

l
Alarm tampered: If the alarm has been triggered, the LED flashes at 10 Hz with a 50:50 duty cycle.

l
Handset battery low indicator: If the handset battery is low, the driver's door is open and the ignition is switched

off, the LED flashes two pulses of 50 ms on, 50 ms off, every 10 seconds.
