Default Engine Trouble

I have had a constant tapping sound which comes from the engien area. The mechanic though it was a lifter but , warranty will only pay if they can identify the lifter. He now believes it is not a lifter because when he manually raises something the noise whould go away but it doesn't.
What other things could cause this tapping in the engine area? I just had an oil change and a gasket sealed which was leaking oil. I am thinking the engine may need to be replaced. I am in the 21215 area code.
My warranty company is giving me the blues and so is this truck[sm=boohoo.gif]

I get a clicking/ticking which I think sounds like it's coming from the SAI solenoid area vs the lifters. Lifters should stop ticking if you raise the throttle a little. Get them to check oil pressure, if it's too low it could starve the lifters. An ATF flush followed by a switch to Mobil 1 may also de-gunk the lifter internals and reduce ticking if it's that. A look inside the oil filler tube with a light or fibre cam will show you what condition the head is in. Look for light golden, dark brown or black is very bad and means you've probably got things gummed up beyond non-mechanical cleaning.

DiscoChick,
A lot more information is needed to help, so what year, how many miles, how often is the oil changed, when do you hear the noise, does the engine oil light come on?
Lot of question but answer as many as you can let see what shows up.
