Default Erratic Idle

Hey guys,

Just noticed something on the scangauge that worries me. I have been trying to resolve a low idle issue (checked IAC, tranission fluid, replaced CPS, and cleaned throttle body per many forum posts) but can't get it resolved. Tonight on the way home I rolled to a red light and the idle dropped to 504 rpm's. This was actually a welcomed sight as I hadn't seen the rpm's get below 640 but could feel the motor slowing down. Any thoughts on what I should check next? Thanks!

Next time you crank up cold, look at coolant temp and IAT (Incoming air temp) - if unplugged or defective, they could be telling engine computer to increase mixture (increase pulse width to injectors) to compenstate for Siberia. You might be in somewhere slightly warmer.

If start up temps look way out of reason, like -40 F when you know it is about 35 F, could be an issue. Of course, temps should increase as engine warms up. Oops, forgot to mention fuel temp as well.

Thanks buzz. I have been watching Coolant temp and on startup it is in the 35-50 degree range depending on ambient temp (I'm in Birmingham, al). I'll check the fuel temp this morning and try to get a video. The coolant level has remained steady since replacing head gaskets last year, and the white cloud smells like straight fuel anyway. Thanks for the help.

Lots of sensors that report on OBDII tell the ECU things that it uses to make mixture richer, so if one or more is out of range, ... IACV is certainly one to remove aand clean carefully.

Here's a link to a video I shot of startup. About five seconds after you turn they key white smoke comes out for about ten seconds. The smoke smells like fuel, not sweet like coolant.
