Default Exhaust maniflold gasket

Needing to do passenger side exhaust manifold gasket. They are pretty accesible from the looks of it, but I have heard horror stories about doing them. Should I attempt or pay to have them done? Already have the parts, but any heads up would help. Thanks.

Do you have secondary air injection?

are you sure the manifold isn't broken or the studs are the problem?

No secondary injection. How could I tell if it's the studs? I don't see any cracks in the manifold. So I was thinking it's the gasket.

it might be something else then. crawl underneath and take a look at the manifold studs, the cats the oxygen sensors for looseness. broken muffler, loose heat shield. Check everything you never know. if the gasket was bad it would produce black soot at the bad spot.

Maybe a stupid question but did you verify torque on the fasteners? I just purchased a D1 and the right bank had a slight leak and the fasteners were loose. I was lucky, I re-torqued and it's quiet now. As others have said look around also at your DP to manifold flange (I had one nut missing on the left bank), cats, and shields.

I have a 97 DI with 110k on it that had a slight leak at the manifold to y-pipe on the passenger's side when I got it. I ended up breaking studs and having to pull both exhaust manifolds and replacing all studs and gaskets both sides. It is a bit of a PITA to get to everything.

Do yourself a favor and buy replacement studs, nuts, and gaskets. Use all new hardware, Spray liberally with PB Blaster for a few days prior to starting if it is not fresh looking.

I also ended up removing Windshield Washer Reservoir for improved access. It makes a world of difference when you have big hands. Good Luck.

Default exhaust manifold Part #

Does anyone have the part number for the gasket where the pipe meets the exhaust manifold?

I got mine from Rover North. Go to their website and you'll find everything you need for the entire exhaust system. I used their brand rather than Original Equipment. Theirs are actually a heavier made gasket.

I found my removed original piece was beginning to burn thru between the two openings. I will post pics later.
