I think something like this could be made, in order to keep engine heat from getting to the air cleaner on a setup like Alex has. The top would have foam to seal the hood, so could be coming from behind the headlights, or cutout fender well hole a little larger.

I'm all about the torque. Speed in my experience in off road has never served much purpose, as does momentum and you need torque to maintain consistent momentum in the soft stuff (mud, sand) and pulling. Like Padre Island National Seashore...I was 18, coming back from surf fishing in a 2 wheel drive, single cab Ford with an old 300 straight 6. Not fast, but full of torque and single exhaust. I past 8 different 4 wheel drive vehicles that were stuck and if I would have stopped to help them, I would have been stuck. Had to keep my momentum and black top was still 40 + miles away and the speed limit on that beach is at a crawl. I never been much of a speed guy. Snorkel sounds like a good bet.

I made one out of a rubbermaid bin when I first made the intake. It was pretty well sealed around the edges and had foam on the top. I didn't take any readings at the time, but I didn't notice a power difference.

You are speaking my language. I go down to PINS all the time. My wife and I were just down there surf fishing on 8/11 this year and she caught a little black tip.

Man, those Blacktips are excellent when marinated in Yakimono, grilled on top of a mesquite fire, and served with Wasabi.

I have a customized aluminum hull boat that I launch out of Port Mansfield. I run the beach, fishing within the 1 mile zone of the surf line. The fishing to be had in that zone is crazy and very under utilized here in Texas. Hope it stays that way. The boat can also be launched from shore line.
