Default Factory Fog Light Switch and wires

Hey guys and gals..I am new to the Rover lifestyle and I have a technical question. I recently aquired a 2002 Disco SE7 with the factory fog lights. I am switching to an ARB set up and was wondering if I can use the relay and switch to run a set of Hella or Piaa lights that will be mounted on theARB bumper. Will this be do much strain on the factory relay, wires and switch?

Thanks in advance

Chris

They will work fine and it is convient.
Are you going to be installing a winch sometime? If you you might think about changing the bumper mounts and get rid of the cruch cans, they won't hold up to a winch for long.

Mine is setup that way with Piaa lights , works well but sometime I would
like to run high beam head lights with the Piaa's.

Most all vehicles are now set per DOT standards so that both lights can not be run at the same time. It can be done, but it does envolve alot of rewiring.

Does anyone know if the stock H/L's on a D1 run through a relay or are hardwired straight though the H/L switch? I was thinking about putting higher wattage bulbs in but don't want to burn up the switch if there's no relay. I've looked around in the fuse box and cannot see anything labelled as a H/L relay?

I believe they run thru a relay like a D2 but I have added 85/100 watt Hella lights to my truck, had them for nearly 4 years with no wiring issues.

Thanks for the info Mike. I've got a set of those Hella bulbs myself I've had since the early 90's. They've been packed away for the past 7 years or so as I've not had a car that would fit them since about 2000.I was glad to see the Disco H/L bulbs were the same fitting and I may be able to put them to use again finally!
