Default Loud noise when shifting

I have a 2003 Disco. It has been a great vehicle to date. However, there is a banging noise that occurrs when I am driving and I take my foot off the gas pedal. I do havean automatic transmission. Sounds like the noise occurrs when it is down shifting. I called Land Rover and they indicated that there is nothing wrong with the transmission or drive train and that it is normal. They also indicated that it may get louder as time goes by. Does anyone else encounter a similar situation? If so is there anything that can be done to eliminate or reduce the noise?

Appreciate your help...

A little noise is normal. I would check your front driveshaft. Look at the U-joints and make sure they have grease fittings. If not, get them replaced ASAP. These can go out, throuwing your front driveshaft, and it can slap the transmission out.

Infamous question here....how many miles?

thanks for the help. I just had it in for a 60k service. I would imagine that they would have checked that. I will definitely follow up on your suggestion.

You never imagine any thing when it comes to your Rover and going to the dealer.
Disco's are known for failing front constant velocity joint do to a lack of grease fitting on Rovers part. If it fails at highway speeds it can cost you upwards of $7000.
That being said, send me your tele number and a good time for me to call you, I'll walk you thru what to do.
