Default The famous 60k service...question(s)

I've read Disco Mike's rockin sticky about the 60k service that we are all familiar with by now. Doing more digging/reading into some of the subject matter, it seems that there are two camps addimently on opposite ends of the spectrum on the whole engine flush. So the question is....to flush or not to flush?

Not this argument again - lol. It has been beat to death - just use the search button.

It always comes down to what you think/believe and there will always be people on both sides of this discussion.

Leave me out of this. Go to an oil forum forum like bobistheoilguy.com and do some searching. There are specific flush products you can use, most available at walmart.

Yeah I figured I would get that reponse :-) All I can picture is a guy yielding a 2X4 whacking a dead horse....I used the search before I posted since it seems to be, as I mentioned, 2 groups that are adimently opposed to each other. I'll check the oil pages out as well and just, well, hell I dunno :-)

I have 30 years in the business that says do it and I am not basing any of my direction based on he said she said responses, but actual manufacture recommendations.

Flushes are sometimes needed, IMO you need to pull your rocker covers or your oil pan to get an idea of the shape your engine is internally to truly know if a flush is needed or not.

The real argument comes with what to flush with, I'm not touching that but I will say that I put in a quart of Marvelous Mystery Oil the last 500 miles of each OCI and will see if that (along with a synthetic heavy duty engine oil) cleaned up my bottom end this coming spring. I cleaned up the top end when I did my head gaskets.

If you want to do a engine flush fine, just make sure that you use a over the counter flush not ATF.
Your engine was not meant to be lubricated with ATF.
Personally I would just use a diesel oil or a full synthetic oil and make 2 short oil changes, meaning change ti now, then again in 2,000 miles or so and then again in another 2,000 miles or so.
The stick with a full syn and change it every 5,000 miles and call it good.

Here is another site for you to explore.
