What's up zuke, sorry to hear about your fan exploding. Can you fill me in on a little more of the details for the fan upgrade? This is the first I'm hearing of that

Well it's fairly straightforward. The old fans get brittle. The hayden/doorman setup is new and moves more air. It's fairly cheap and could save you a $1000 repair bill on the road. Part numbers are listed on this post.

And the one that exploded was an 03-04 one piece unit right Zuke?

Okay gotcha I figured with that kind of damage it had to be the earlier fan blade with the outer ring as the 03-04 style could sling a blade without as much carnage. If a 99-02 goes that big unbalanced ring is just gonna catch on everything!!! Had a friend with a D2 freaking out when he saw your thread.

Thanks dude. When I do the overhaul, do I need to get the clutch, the fan, and the radiator? Or just the clutch & fan?

Well if your radiator is good then don't bother but if you are running the original then it would be a good idea. The Nissens unit is about $160. Some guys on here swear by the $80 ebay units so either way it is cheap to do. I would go Nissens (just my opinion)

If anybody breaks down west of Vail pass, I would give a big thumbs up to using Werks diesel repair in gypsum colorado.
Would love to have a Nationwide list of good mechanics for people to recommend, they should be rewarded for not pretending the vehicle is some exotic Ferrari that needs a specialist, now, nothing wrong with specialists, but a lot of people fleece land rover owners, when it's a damn Buick engine.

Rant Over.
