Not to hijack this, but I just wanted to confirm that my Fan Clutch is not working correctly. I have a 2001 Discovery 2, when I start it my mechanical fan runs, and it never stops spinning. (I've let it idle up to temperature)

Since I don't have an Advance Auto, I'm looking at picking up what looks to be an equivalent Fan Clutch at O'Reilly:

it should always spin but there should be a distinct point where you hear it kick in and out

also i was thinking since the gm clutch brings the fan a bit closer to the radiator that the thermostat will probably heat up quicker so that might account for it staying on longer. the heavy duty one just kicks in under the "normal operating temp" so the engine never gets cool enough for i to turn off unless you are doing 70mph in 50 degree weather. i'm gonna change it for the regular duty one.

i changed it for the regular duty and it seems to work correctly, kicks in at startup and when sitting idling after a minute or so,

i just wanted to finalize this thread for anyone who may be dealing with this issue. i went to the uwharrie lr rally this weekend and she ran great on all the trails, so the imperial #215157 fan clutch from advance auto works great if you are in need of a replacement.
