FAN turns on when i first start my Discovery
Hey guys, when i first start my discovery a fan turns on and runs for about 30-45 seconds and then stops. The fan does turn on at those points necessary. I am just wondering if this is a concern. I do not remember the vehicle doing this until recently. Any advice and or suggestions would be appreciated.

When this happens, is your a/c turned on, if so it may be normal. If this is the case, turn of the a/c, let it sit awhile and restart it, what happens??

Hey Mike
Thanks as always.
No the AC is not on. I just went out to the garage and checked. Nor is the fan or any part of heater / air conditioning control section.
The fan does this ONLY when i first start up the vehicle in the morning or the first start up of the day. Otherwise, i can stop and start the vehicle many times through out the day and the fan does not come on other than when it would normally.
Its just that 30-45 seconds at the first start up of the day.
Thanks,
Gordon

Sounds like the secondary air pump... normal. Its supposed purpose is to "clean" the otherwise "dirty" engine, which as we all know is, that being the 4.0 and 3.9 litre V8.
To make sure, I would suggest you have someone start the truck one morning while you have the hood up. Look at the fan in question to verify it is the fan you hear, not something else, then get back to us.

Well, I went out in the snow yesterday to check and mine does it also, must be normal. My only concern is mine makes noise loud noise, yours does, possibily a fan motor starting to fail???
