I've never pushed my Rover over 80. My 2007 Dodge is governed at 108mph. We found that on the way home from the dealer the day I bought it. My 2001 Dodge diesel I had at 112 on flat ground but no idea where the governor is set. That's just where the wind resistance became so great the truck couldn't accelerate any more. And the winner is my 1997 Saab 9000. 140mph on a road that is rough at 65. I was racing my buddy to the bar after a day of fishing.

Just because you have pedal left doesn't necessarily mean the vehicle can go faster. You'll only accelerate until the vehicle can no longer overcome the wind resistance. When my Dodge diesel hit 112 I was at about 3/4 throttle but nothing happened when I pushed it all the way to the floor. I already had the turbo spooled up and pumping out 36 pounds of boost so unless I found more power it wasn't going any faster.

I had my 5spd Disco I up to just under 105mph once on an empty road in the middle of no where. Don't think it would have gone much more. I think I could see the fuel guage dropping down as the speedo inched higher. I figured I was probably burning about a pint of gas a minute at that speed, maybe more. I cruise at 75-80mph in mine frequently. Is much more stable at those speeds than my Explorer was.

unless any of you have had a GPS running while making a high speed run you really have no clue how fast or slow you were going. all speedos are off by some percentage. ALL

that being said and someone mentioned it before,, my hayabusa which i use to own (also in a busa club) had a max indicated of 185. i know several land speed builders of bikes and to do a honest 200mph on a bike like a hayabusa you must be making 210 to 220 hp and have perfect conditions.

my hayabusa was worked over a bit and nitrous injected and the best i could muster from it with a mild gearing change was 205 GPS.

on a race track my ducs have seen maybe 175, but i tape off or remove the speedo cause all i care about is RPM's.

the 308 i have Gps'd at 146 on a slight down hill stretch of high way. it might have had some left but im not gonna push a 30 year old car that hard.

a Rx7 turbo i used to have that was making 417 hp at the wheels was good for 174 mph GPS.

with barely 200hp working its way to the wheels on the Disco 2's i am betting 120mph is hard to achieve unless dropped from the back of a cargo plane. its simply too heavy, to brick like, and not too powerful.

on another note you speeders should all be locked up!!! damn kids!!!

I know my speedo is off by 10%. It reads 10% faster than my GPS indicates I'm actually going. I don't know for certain that my Saab really hit 140 but I know I went flying past my buddy who was at his 110 governor.

Yeah ALL speedo are typically off, usually read higher than actual speed with stock wheels tires. There was a sport bike mag in the UK that used to give speedo acuracy when it did a write up on a bike. Typically all were off by 5-10% at 100mph. I can actually tell the difference in my CAR (not the Disco) when my tires are new compared to when they are worn on the speed vs the rpm. I usually figure I can get away with doing about 10mph over the speed limit on the highway, cause I'm actually only going about 5mph over.

not only are they off, but they are off exponentially as speed rise. But most read high so when you are doing say 70 you are really doing say 62 or 63.

its a way for manufacturers to slow you down without ever knowing it.

See now in my FedEx van the speedo reads slow, it says 65 and I am actually doing 68-70.
My DI it reads 5 mph fast, so when it says 70 actual is 65, BUT the odometer is dead on.
DI's are governed to 111 mph here in the States, I do not know about a DII.
98% of the time I set the cruise at 65 and just stay in the right hand lane and enjoy the ride.

I did 18 trillion miles an hour once, when I was in the space shuttle...no wait, we never left the Smithsonian - Damit

I did this on my way east (from ColoSpgs) through Kansas. In a 97 Ford power stroke. I have no idea what the speed toped out (well over a hun'ert) at but...I held it just a smidge under the RPM redline until the speed leveled off. I did it once that was enough for me!
