Fill Plug D2 Transaxle - How to get it out?
I am trying to change out the transaxle gear lube on my D2. I used a 1/2" drive breaking bar and did not have any trouble getting the drain plug out. The 1/2 inch square drive fill plug however is tough to get to, and I cannot get a ratchet or breaking bar to it with the line of some kind in the way. I tried with the swivel socket adapter and a short extension, and cannot get any leverage with it as the swivel slips. I also tried cutting 1/2" x 1/2" steel bar about 1" long piece and putting it in the plug and using a 1/2" open end wrench to turn the steel bar. I have tapped the open end wrench with a pretty good size hammer and does not budge. I tried to put some PB Buster around it, but it is vertical and not sure any really gets in around the plug. I have put a 2 ft piece of water pipe on the 1/2 open end wrench to gain some leverage and still no movement even tapping with 3 lbs hammer. This is a normal thread that I need to turn counter-clockwise to get out isn't it?
Next I would normally use heat, but not sure what the line wrapped in a heat protective-like foil that is in the way is. Wires or line of some kind? Anyway, afraid heat may damage it. RAVE calls for locktite to go back on this fill plug, and I am assuming that is has loctite on it now, so any ideas would be appreciated.

I used the 24" breaker bar and just moved the brake cable out of the way. i had no problem getting it out. Always remove the fill plugs before removing the drain plugs...
