Well , i am still getting quotes and from all the information i am getting, The wiring and ecu is the most time consuming. besides fabricating motor mounts and a modified cross beam, alot of the conversion is pretty strait forward. the gas pedel and fuel system present a few chalanges also. But i know spike is up for the challange.

Fo grins and giggles i got a quote for the rebuild parts for my burnt motor from AB, About $1,600.00 on the lighter side.. I also got quotes for flange liners from LA sleave...$69.00 per liner. If i shipped my block there they do each one for $130.00 for removing and reinstalling new liners. They told me i should be able to find cheaper as they are always busy. I have been quoted at around $100.00. Pretty good deal actually. So about $2,600.00 not including machine shop. I would also use custom head studs and Cometic gaskets that i got quoted about $100.00 per gasket. All sounds well and good but i still would not have the warm a fuzzy feeling as the block is a unknown even if tested ...just dont trust them...

Here it is, I left out his e-mail but this was his reply.
No pics, sorry.
The engine he bought was a International TD4
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Phil, I ordered the Engine from the Factory in Sao Paulo Brazil.. I had it shipped up here by air. I odered the addapter plate/ kit from MD Engineering in the UK. I had that shipped here by air as well. I had the Intercooler built in texas by Bell Intercoolers..everything such as labor and fabrication and Installation I did my self... I did not have to do much to get the Engine to work. your Disco already has a fuel return line to the tank. so that wont have to be messed with. the Install kit from the UK came w/ everything needed to mount the engine and addapt it to the Auto trans. I used a Gentleman named Stephen Cahill to source the engine. he can be contacted at www.obwcanada.com intercooler at www.bellintercoolers.com and the install kit can also be sources through Mr. Cahill.... or you can contact David Jackson at www.mdengineering.co.uk

hope this helps you out.. contact me anytime for photos of the install or any other help.

Its two fold...The 300tdi is a easy conversion ...just about 1 wire , the problem lies that the DII is a fat pig....The md conversion are geared at DI's.. Trying to power a DII with a TDI300 would be very dissapointing to say the least. There is a thread on discoweb and expedition portal about conversions as i have spent hours reading threw them. Most guys who have pulled them off where on DI's. The defender is the easiest to convert and actually people suggest using a TD5 from a defender than from a Disco, less wireing but the ecu's are the problem...well not really... actually LR made it rediculasly difficult like every other thing they do...I have seen one defender change to a TD5 with out any glitches except getting the right ecu. After that a cake walk....So the reasearch continues. Better start studying Spike....

No , you need a R380 gearbox which is for the TDI or TD5 which you can pickup for around $600.00 US.. People have actually just had the whole front clip of a TD5 DII cut off and included pipeing and gas tank and shipped over

I am still working on the Td conversion and have talked with some pretty sharp people. Here is what Keith Kreutzer from www.rovertracks.com emailed me as he has actually done one or two..

can tell you on a D2 the cost will include buying the front half of a TD5 D2 and shipping is over. To do it right you will need a multitude of parts from this front clip, plus the Motor and Tranny. That's $10K+ then if you have the skilz it's a pretty easy remove and replace swap, very time consuming though. I could see it talking a 40 hour per week shop about a week and a half.

So i am still working on it. I figure i can get all for under $4,000.00 as i have been quoted plus shipping which would be around $700.00 so i am still in the ballpark...

My pile still sits in the driveway ...it's to hot here in florida to much of anything especially work on the engine. I need to pull it but i am going to see how blown up it is first as it will turn but not fire...just oil light on....no modivation at all though ...
