API rating or better.
NO you can use the same weight all year around. While I lived in California I always ran 20/50W because of the mild climate, here in Colorado, it is 5/30W in the winter and 10/40w in the summer when I am playing harder.

I'm in San Antonio, TX. Do I really need a different weight in the winter?

And only run it in Nov, Dec and Jan here in Dallas Tx.
I found that 15w50 Mobil One synthetic took to long to get to the
top end, even inthe summer.
So I just use the 10w40 the rest of the time.
I have 107K on my truck , the motor is still tight.
Thick oil for motors that need to make up the opened tolerances.

I just like the fact that the lighter oil gets to the top end faster.
And only run it in Nov, Dec and Jan here in Dallas Tx.

[/quote]How are you determining what oil gets to the top of your engine first? Is it by internal engine noise at start up, if so you might want to look at the brand of oil filter your are using, sound s like your filter is not holding its oil and bleeding down over night.

Land Rover Filters or Mobil One Oil filters same sounds.
When you live with something for awhile you know.
Its the little sounds that you key on.
After working on cars for 27 years you just know.
