Just picked up my first LR, a good-looking 2004 Disco II with 118K miles (only ~10K on the rebuilt Bosch V8 engine) for a great price from my neighbor because he couldn't pass smog (Nevada). Not sure what the condition of failure was (just having an SES light is cause for failure here), but I pulled the following engine codes: P0150, 0159, 0174, 0300, 0304, 0308, 1300 and 1412.The 030X codes seem simple enough, and I suspect the 015X and 1300 codes are a result of the 030X codes. However, I am wondering if all of those codes are caused by an issue with the SAI system (the 1412 code)?

Also the 0734 code is a new one to me -- how does an untouched, factory automatic transmission have the wrong gear ratio? Thanks in advance, M

 

 

The incorrect gear ratio code I used to get on my '03. New MAF sensor took care of it.

Check that thread for details. Only thing I did in my Disco was replace the MAF and the incorrect gear code has never shown up again. Don't know the age of prior sensor it came with the Disco and had 99,xxx miles showing.

I had all four O2 sensors replaced and a fresh Turner Engineering 4.6 after I bought it but the old MAF sensor survived the engine replacement.

 

Concentrate on the more important issues and this one may go away.

Get the misfires taken care of first. P0300 is multiple misfires and P0304 is a misfire on cylinder #4, and P0308 is a misfire on cylinder #8. Once those are fixed the P0150/P0159/P0174 might go away.

The SAI P1412 is probably the hose from the SAI pump to the metal line, or a vacuum leak.

 

Thanks for all the tips from everyone; here's an update:

I pulled all the codes once more before beginning and found 0150, 0300, 0304, 0308, 0734, 1300 and 1412 were Confirmed, with 0174 Pending; I cleaned the MAF and then cleared/re-scanned the codes.

Now I had 0150, 0308, 0734, 1300 and 1412 were Confirmed, with 0157, 0300 and 0304 now Pending (0174 was gone); I ordered a new MAF* and replaced the CAI solenoid and then cleared/re-scanned the codes.

Now I only had 0174 and 1174 Confirmed and 1412 Pending -- everything else was gone. I replaced the Passenger side Front O2 sensor and then cleared/re-scanned the codes.

This latest scan gave me 0159 as Confirmed and 0130 and 0171 as Pending, so I replaced Driver's side Front O2 sensor, then cleared/re-scanned the codes.

Now all I had left 1172 as Pending (none Confirmed!); the MAF had arrived, so I installed it after clearing/re-scanning the codes and now I HAVE ZERO CODES!!!!!

* PS -- I found that the Bosch MAF cross-references to the 2003 VW Jetta with the 2.5L V6; for some reason -- even though it's the exact same part -- you'll only pay about $80 for it when it's for the VW, as opposed to ~$120 for it when it's for the DIsco. Yes, same exact part number.

 

Firstly you need to beg, borrow or steal a good code reader and then secondly clear all the codes on your D2 and then take it for a drive, codes are resident until cleared. After a drive if any codes reappear then work through them methodically eliminating any problems and then clear them again and repeat your drive again until they are all cleared and resolved. It's a long and tedious job but it's the only way to clear them all.

No worries, I just assumed your were partaking of your region's finest export, lol....as for a good code reader, I started with the iLand but was a bit underwhelmed with it's capabilities, so I bought the Blue Reader off of Amazon ($99) and used that unit quite effectively; I particularly like that I can email myself each code scan report (which I did). I then printed them out as I went and made notes on sheet as to what part/s I replaced in reaction to those codes, so I have a date- and time-stamped diary of what I've done to the car. mike
