First road trip in my 2003 Discovery
I just took a road trip from Atlanta to Houston in my Disco. I haven't sat down to calculate the exact gas mileage yet but it seems like it was not the greatest but I had some extenuating circumstances. Seems like it was around 13-14 though at best guess or about 1/4 tank drop-off every 75 miles or so. I also found that my low fuel levellight typically goes on when there is about 5 gallons left in the tank according to what I pumped into the tank!
I have mid level off road tires, a 3 inch lift kit, off road lights and a roof rack. I also was transporting a a fully loaded fairly heavy batch of household items including several cartons of hardcover books. There was me and my yellow lab, curled up on the floor behind the passenger seat (seat pushed forward as far as possible).
The weather was cold, averaging in the low 20's when I started and not going above39 degrees until the last3 of the 12 hour drive (trip is about 850 miles). I had a moderate head or cross wind and rain for over 3/4 of the way, the cold rain even caused ice to form on my roof rack and brush gaurd! The last 3 hours were from Shreveport south and had streches of 75mph speeds down to 25 in small towns and plenty of traffic lights mixed in. On the freeways I averaged 75-80 mph mostly using the cruise control.
The good points are that I find my Disco really comfortable to drive, very responsive on wet roads indeed! Alsomy new stereo systemwith Sirius and Ipod made for better mental stimulation!
Just a for what it is worth posting! It will be intersting to compare my return trip in 2 weeks when I am mostly empty and riding with the wind.
