Hey guys just bought an '03 Disco with around 117k on it last week. I couldnt really resist cause I got a great deal on it. Drove it from DC to Ohio for Thanksgiving, the drive was to be expected for Turkey day but was fine. This weekend I plan on doing a major overhaul on it though cause no service history came with the vehicle. I have one question though, someone told me that you shouldnt go in water over hub deep cause of the possibility of damaging electronics, is this true. Anyways thanks for any help and from what I can tell this seems like a good forum.

Sam:

Read the manual- it covers wading depths. Make sure that if you wade through water, it doesn't come in the doors. If water gets to the ECU under the passengers seat, you're screwed!

Good luck!

Paul.

hub deep? you can go up to the air intake. do the 60k service, check the driveshaft for greasable u joints, and see if you are in the death vin range, might install an oil pressure guage to play it safe. welcome to the madness.

Just because it is new for you don't get too crazy too soon or you will be in for a shock.
First, are you doing my major service list for maintance? Make sure you install 8 mm plug wires and plan on rebuilding or replacing the front drive shaft, if it only has one grease fitting, before it fails and takes out your tranny.
Have you run your vin number thru Rover to see if your engine is on their hit list for possible oil pump/engine failures, if so do this and while at it, get the radio code and all recall information on your truck, from the dealer.
As for water depth, do you have an owners manual, if so read it, cover to cover, if not, buy one and read it.
All manufACTURE WILL TELL YOU TO HUB DEPTH TO COVER THEIR BUTTS, BUT WHEN YOUR TRUCK IS SET UP RIGHT AND YOU LEARN HOW TO DRIVE IT, YOU CAN do to about 2.5" if driven properly.
