To fix or not to fix.
I have a legitimate question for everyone who has taken the engine replacement leap. I’m getting quotes in the 10-15k range all in from reputable independent LR shops (15k being a worse case scenario). If I do this and make this my forever car how should I insure it? It would be a daily driver if I do a full replacement so classic insurance wouldn’t apply. I’ve got a lot more into it than it’s worth already. If I put another 10k in to the truck for the next 5-10 years of use; then there is a wreck and the insurance totals it and tells me it’s work 3-5k I’m out of luck right? I know I can buy it from them and rebuild it on a salvage title but I’m not interested in that. I’m on the fence because of the lack of coverage. Please advise
How's the frame? Your location isn't exactly easy on the undercarriage.
You certainly can't buy a new SUV for 15k but you're likely not going to be getting new car reliability out of the rig as everything else is at, if not over, 20 yrs old.
You'll also never likely be able to resell for what you have in it.
In my opinion not an investment, it's a hobby. Go for it if your budget allows and you don't have a significant other that will make you sleep in it for spending 15k on it.

I would recommend looking at either a stated value policy or maybe Hagerty insurance. There is plenty of data on BAT showing D2's are worth between $15-20 in good condition. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...scovery-ii-26/
