Flashing lights on dash
Hello All;
I have two flashing lights on my dash. The S and M (Sport and Manual) lights are flashing.
I have shut off and restarted the disco to no avail. The manual says that this is an indication of an electrical fault in the transfer case?
Can someone tell me what thatmeans and how I fix it?
The lights started flashing after work. I drove the Rover home (5 miles). It got progressively more sluggish the farther I went. Once up to speed it seemed to operate normally, however starting froma stop it took quite a bit of effort for the Rover to get going. (extra engine revving) It also is quite abrupt whenshiflting from reverse and or park into drive. That part seems as though the Rover is extremely low on trans fluid.
I looked in the manual and could not find a single word on how the check the trans fluid level in this thing, much less how to add fluid if low?
Thanks
Russ

First, this is a problem with the tranny, not the t/case. It is not a fluid level issue, it has to do with the ECU, the Tranny control unit and the valve body. I would suggest you take it to a tranny shop, have them plug in their scanner and see what the problem is.
There have been times when something a simple as a low battery will cause these light to trigger, so make sure your battery is fully charged, then clean and retighten the battery cables.
As for checking the fluid level, you can only do that thru the fill plug located on the side of the tranny pan.

Thanks Mike;
I replaced the battery 2 months ago, so I think that shoud be okay.
Can I take this thing to any tranny shop or do I need to take it to a Rover shop?
Thanks again

Hello Mike;
I took the Rover to "Biggs Eastside Automotive"this morning. They ran the codes and told me that the Transmission had registered a low voltage condition.
As luck would have it the Lights stoped flashing when I started the vehicle this morning prior to taking it to the shop.
Biggs checked my alternator and battery, both are working properly. They did say however that battery cold cranking amps rating is less than they recommend, and that could have caused the error if I was runninga lot of accessories.
They cleared the code in the computer and sent me on my way.
So for now my Rover is back on the road.
Thanks for your help
