Default Flashing lights and inertia fuel cuttoff

So dropped my disco off to get the headgaskets, thermo, coolant, waterpump etc etc. done after discovering a gross exhuast side head gasket leak... and the mech got it all back together nicely, but when he was done putting it back together, he tried to start it but thought there might be a factory alarm issue, as it wouldnt start and was blinking, think he said the flashers or hazards. alittle more troubleshooting he reported back that he thinks the fuel shutoff switch is dead or causing the issue.

i was curious, its too odd that it nothing was wrong with it until all this work was done... i trust him completely so thats not an issue... but im wondering if anyones aware if there is a common, or semicommon issue or trick with the switch that would cause a nostart blink on situation? perhaps something else is causing the problems, or maybe the long period of battery disconnect and jossling around set something?

sorry i dont have more details, just relaying what he thought it might be. he wanted to go ahead and replace the fuel cutoff switch, he said he removed it and tried tinkering with it but no result... but before i get one from land rover (as no one else has it) figured maybe someone knows one of the billions of "special" tricks required for these ****in things haha. perhaps putting the left turn signal on, while pumping the breaks, and having someone spray blue tinted water on one of the grounds in direct sunlight with a south wind will cause it to right itself.

Its actually a South eastern Wind..lol..... there shouldnt be any specials for the inertia switch, because it is a safety critical item. but maybe someone else might know.

Could be a bad inerita switch , which can be tested before replacing or it could be a damaged or unplugged crank sensor

That doesn't turn on the 4-ways.

It's the inertia switch. Whether it just needs to be reset or replaced is the only question. It could have easily gotten smacked with an exhaust header or whatever from the work he did.

I'm pretty sure you can just jumper the connector to bypass it for testing purposes. Does this shop have rover specific diagnostic tools? My hawkeye will tell you what the vehicle thinks the state of the switch is, set or tripped.

its the wiring to the inertia switch underneath the fuse box is corroded. pull out the three bolts and turn it over and you will see the corroded green and white wire.

Thank you for this post! I had the same thing happen here. A corroded Green & White wire which finally ate through to causing an open circuit and kicked off the Flashers and no start head ache i have had for two weekends of trouble shooting. From alarm EKA reset (wasn't it) to finally finding this post,. Why this Green and white wire goes bad is beyond me.
Thanks again and thanks to all the members here that participate. Cheers!
