Flashing Service Engine Light '03 Discovery
Good day. Service Engine Light started flashing and vehicle has sluggish acceleration in lower RPM range. According the the dealer the SE light was cause by a problem Code in Cylinder 8. They replaced all my plugs, caps & wires and the Code still appeared. They went back and replaced coils, thought the problem was resolved - after driving 15 min same problemwith Cylinder 8. I'm at $1400 right now and they want to go into the engine for a minimum of $1500 if it is a rod or something. Any suggestions and help is needed! Thanks.

if it is flashing this means a misfire that is catalyst harming, meaning raw fuel is entering the cat and can burn them up. if they took care of the ignition side i would say that outside of a serious engine problem, its prob an injector that is stuck open and allowing fuel to just drip into the cylinder. i would run the tank to about 1/4 and dump in a can of BG 44k for a cheap start. then lean towards having a an injector cleaning done. they told me the same thing about tearing off the head for 1500,mine turned out to be a brand new wire that was no good.

Sounds like you have a blown head gasket and coolant is getting into that cylinder and causing the mis fire.
About $1500 to fix.
Take it else where, play dumb and have them do a cooling system pressure check and look for leaks.
Say nothing about the mis fire or the work already done.
Sounds like your dealer want to throw parts at it until your wallet is empty.

I am the only owner of the vehicle. The vehicles has 133,000 miles.I purchased the vehicle with an extended warranty and must say that over the years the majority of the issues have been covered under the warranty. About 3 years ago the lower engine was replaced (under warranty). Also, in the past, had problemswith the oil pressure / pump. Here recently the last two service tickets addressed ABS malfuntion and last ticket addressed coolant leak at throttle body heater - the throttle body heater gasket assembly was replaced.
Thanks
Thanks
