That is a GREAT installation job! Want to do mine for me (After I fix all the other things, so in about 10 years)?

Okay, so I put in a new Coolant Temp Sensor due to mine going bad.

The temps on highway are 200-204. Only other change than the Coolant temp sensor was I topped off with Peak, as I did not have any Evans available. So I will be doing a regular coolant change interval.

Sounds about right for a Motorad stat.

I have a flex a lite which the installer put a Britpart 180 OEM stat in, those were the temps I got.

I switched over the the grey one from Lucky 8 which I previously ran, and that dropped my highway temps to 186-188.

It appears the electric fan setup, even though it blows a much higher volume of air, still is reliant on the proper thermostat to get the optimum temps.

There are about 4 kinds of OEM 180 genuine thermostats, they aren't all the same.

If your earlier reported temps of 200-204 are at most constant speeds over idle and with typical OAT of ORD in the winter a fan or clutch upgrade would do squat. I ran my D2 without a fan/clutch installed when evening temps were in the 40s just for grins and giggles. Temps were my typical 186-188 riding for 10-15 miles to the parts store and back. Good circulation through block and functioning radiator should maintain normal temps this time of year unless not moving in typical ORD city traffic.

180 stats may vary as Dave03s said, mine isn't genuine or advertised as but was only about $20 and works. Heard to avoid the Motorad and did, guess lottery won the day ordered.
......

My Thermostat is from a dealer so I am certain it is genuine.

It certainly may be genuine but... You are not hearing what I am saying. There are FOUR (4) OEM white Genuine 180 degree thermostats and they all say they are Genuine OEM.

You WILL NOT get the same operating temperatures from them. Even though they say OEM GENUINE and 180 degree, they are different.

The grey one that Lucky 8 sells provides the lowest temps. 12 -14 degrees lower as a matter of fact.

No, I don't work for L8 but I've tried all of the stats and bought 2 of the grey ones and am trying to tell you if you want your temps lower you will have to get the GREY Genuine OEM 180 from L8. Not a white one from a dealer or AB, etc...

Your temps are exactly where mine were when I used the white Genuine OEM 180.

Mine is grey. I had a white one prior. And the distinction is between the terms OEM and Genuine. Motorad can call their thermostat OEM, but not genuine. There is only one Genuine Part as explained to me by the vendor who sold me the Motorad OEM.

I don't know if anyone is following this project, but here is an update.

My AR-99 fan controller failed. After sending it in, it seems like the inability for the fans to shut off at highway speed and maintain temperature I am comfortable with may have damaged the unit. That said, it may not have.

So I am going to go back to my viscous fan clutch, which I hate getting on and off, but what can you do?

The design of the truck and how is interacts with the GTO fans just doesn't allow enough air through at highway speed.

It was a lot of fun to do, and the failure did coincide with the alternator blowing. I will never really know what happened. Ron Francis has been really helpful and this is the most robust controller you can get. For a different application I would recommend it.
