Default Flippy-out key fob upgrade.

I have a standard plip key. Doesn't fold up. Sticks in my leg, and wears holes in my pockets.

Can I take the insides out of it, buy a cheap flippy-out key blank from China and swap it all over?

"This" says it fits but the key blade looks far too fat.

Is there anything I can get that doesn't have to come on a boat from the other side of the world, slow or otherwise?

Final question, what's the procedure for getting a replacement chip/transponder etc? Effectively getting a spare plip key.

Mucho thankso.

Edit, realise I must have too much time on my hands/Disco running far too well if I'm looking into a 'luxury' key option.

Nice tip. Thanks. I'll see if he wanders past here. If not, I'll hunt him down....

So, I can get a chipped key blank, that would just need programming (thanks Ab ).

Anyone close to Putnam County, NY, want a case of beer for the service?

Great.

So you just swapped over your old internals? As its only a shell. And had it cut? How was the cutting process, right first time?

yes, swap internals over internals, screw case down and go have they blank key on there cut.

Apparently cutting LR keys is an art form but i got it done here by AAA locksmith for $4.50 and it took him a few tries to perfect it but its smooth now.
