Flywheel
#13
I bought a remanufactered starter from NAPA. The engine will turn over until the starter reaches the bad spot on the flywheel, then the motor stops. it won't turn any farther. If I turn the motor backwards with a wrench far enough, the motor will crank before it reach the bad spot. We drove the car a year before this started happening.

Can you turn ( with a wrench ) the engine/flywheel past the point where it locks?
You do have the engine disabled ( ignition off ) from starting when you turn it with a wrench!
If the flywheel is easily visible and you can turn the engine beyond the locking point, I would check if
the flywheel wobbles.
Also check the bendix drive on the starter since you jammed it already. Make sure the gear retracts.
No major issues beforehand with the engine?

Let me ask you guys a question? Might the flange on the back of the crankshaft be bent? Because the problem was common to both the old flywheel and starter and the new flywheel and starter. And l just notice on the old flywheel, that all the broken teeth is concentrated in one area. I check the old flywheel and it's straight.
