Default FM band on OEM radio is KAPUT!

Help Please!! '03 Disco 2 "S" with a factory AM/FM cassette player. No CD changer and never had one as far as I can tell.

I replaced the after-market JVC with a used Land Rover Alpine HU and I can only get AM and weather band reception. Both fuses in the panel under the steering wheel are good, and pulling the antennae coax stops any reception, so I feel the wiring and antennae amp is working.

Weird thing is the JVC works fine. Anyone run into this before?

Some of the high end head units used two antenna amplifiers. Thus had two coax cables to input. My S model only has one RF amplifier in the rear passenger side cargo window. There is an antenna embedded in both rear windows, but no RF Amp or coax going to the one on the drivers side.

Perhaps your head unit requires both.

Do you get any noise/sound at all on the FM?

I don't know where you bought the "new" one but maybe just return it?

Mln01, No noise at all from the FM side and I'm well past the return date.

Dave03S, Only one coax in the dash and I have the headliner out right now so I can see only one amp on RS rear glass.

Does the head unit have two holes for coax? I know my S model came with a Harmon Kardon head unit. The Alpine was in higher level models which used the two antenna system.

Nope. Only one coax plug in the back of the HU.

Default Update on my radio issue

Update to this post. I picked up another used HU for the disco this past weekend. The donor truck was a 2003 HSE. The only difference that I can see between this unit and the one I posted about above, is a hole in the rear for another smaller antennae coax, which I do not have in my truck, and the "I" button on the far left side of the face plate.

So, I got it home and plugged it all in. AM/FM & WB now displaying and the radio will seek/scan and find stations. Problem is, I have no sound at all. zip, nada, nothing. The donor truck had a CD changer and I believe the amplifier was there scattered among the other bits.

Anyone know if these head units have to have an amplifier to work properly?

All head units must work feeding their compatible amplifiers, typically residing under the left front seat.

No amp under the seat, and no wiring plugs, pig tails to suggest one was there. Also, I noticed looking at the attached schematic, that one plug that I do have is for an accessory that I don't have.

In this picture I have three plugs. Connector 0092 (brown connector), C0098 ( gray connector), and C0921 ( yellow connector) and one antennae coax.

Per the schematic, the yellow conn is for radio headphone and telephone audio.
I have no connections in the second row for head phones and no telephone/ blue tooth/ hands free options.
