Default FNG Hello and codes P1187 & P1316

99 Disco, Hi I the forum is great.

Upon reading I know that the P1316 is related to missfires and the P1187 is related to heated O2 sensor failure.

I had several misfire codes and the disco was running rough. I replaced the wires and plugs.

The truck seems to be running good but I keep on getting the P1316 so I replaced the fuel filter, did an upper combustion chamber clean (additive for fuel and can run through vac to intake), ran the fuel down and replaced it with 14gal of hi test and 2 bottles of techron injection cleaner.

Still getting the code though. I drove it about 30mi yesterday (To get gas, back to get wallet then gas, then home and to work today) and got the P1316 X3 and the P1187 X 1.

The P1316 preceeded the p1187 but both showed up around the same time. I had the code scanner hooked up and watched it regularly. There were no obvious running problems when the code came on.

These are the last codes I have to clear in order to get the sticker. I am leaning towards replacement of the front O2 sensor but am hesitant.

If it is an O2 sensor are there any direct replacement O2 sensors I should stay away from or just get the factory one/s and call it a winner?

Any help would be appreciated I really want to clear this up.

Thanks, Jaymce

How many miles on your truck?
If 100,000 or so, buy 4 new 02's, check out Atlantic British or Rover Connection. You can usually find Bosch 02's at local parts stores for around $65 a piece.

Actually about 170K

DM I have read many of your posts while lurking and searching other questions. I assume that since you are recomending the Bosch O2 sensors that they work in the Rovers w/o a problem?

Just want to be sure as I have replaced O2 sensors on some makes with aftermarket sensors only to chase the problem in a circle and end up back at the O2 sensor. If you say they work though then that is good enough for me. I am not sure if Bosch makes the sensors for Rover (which would not suprise me).

I will assume you have a D1 since you swapped the fuel filter

Bosch makes good sensors. BUT you will be looking close to $120 a piece for them. Atlantic British was having a sale on them for closer to $100/ea. Just don't use the universals you cut in. Buy something that has the factory plug on it and you will be ok.

What kind of plugs and wires are you running?

I got the plugs and wires from NAPA. The other local parts sources have parts that I feel are questionable.

NAPA would have sent whatever was the best they had as that is the standing order I have with them.

I rarely by aftermarket electrical and emissions parts as I am guessing that they tend to be more universal. Fits Land Rover, Chevy Impala and Toyota. Sure it does. Where folks here seem be having good luck with them I will get some and fire them in.

I would never buy the universals... I have yet to find one that works even though know people who swear by them. Any time I get to thinking about them I just reach in my pocket pull out some bills and toss them in the trash. Figure why waste my time and the time of the good folks at the autoparts store and cut out thte middleman.

Also I will replace all 4 but out of curiosity why? Is it that if one goes bad the others are not far behind thus easier to do them all at once that keep on coming back. I need to keep the truck running for another 6mo-1yr then I will be looking for a replacement.

Thanks for the info.

O2's wear out at 100K. If you throw a new one in the mix, the readings will be off and you will run lean or rich on one bank and possibly get more codes. The plus is that you will get better fuel mileage.

The plug wires are still 7MM, just like OEM. Upgrade to 8MM and you won't have to touch them. I went through 3 sets of 7MM Bosch before knowing. I replaced them about every 6 months (under warranty) until I got my Magnacors. Apexperformance.net has the best pricing on wires. I would get new wires and plugs to start.

Also, I noticed you said you ran it down and replaced with high test. You HAVE to run 91 or better octane all of the time or you will get misfires...
