Default Front Axle Seal Leak

Hey everyone. I have a left front axle seal leak in my 2004 D2. I was hoping it was the breather tube, but no clogs. Has anyone ever used BlueDevil or any similar product for a dif leak? I just need something to buy me a couple of weeks until I can do the seal replacement. And probably ball joints, too.

Thanks in advance.

Pete

Did you ever get this fixed? New seal or BlueDevil?

Yeah, ended up being a blown wheel bearing. I replaced the hub, no issues since!

Mine ended up being a leaky axle seal. Took about 2 hours to replace.
I removed the brake caliper and rotor, then used a screw driver to pop out the bad seal.
To insert the new seal, I used a piece of a ball joint press kit that matched up with the lip of the seal so I could hammer it in without damaging it.

I have a minor leak and think it's due to the cold weather and the effects on the seal(s). Nothing major at this point just some oil drips on the rim and tire (not brake fluid).
I have had pretty good luck with what I used to know as White Sheppard which I guess is now Blue Devil.
I have owned this truck since new and did the thicker oil in the diffs and TC with some luck.
Just wondering if the Blue Devil has had good results - in the diffs?

Ordered new seals to have on hand just curious of others outcomes.

Thanks!
Erik

Have you checked breather hoses? Also do you have stock or upgraded axle shafts? I had an oil leak because the collar on the axle shaft had come off its lip, creating a large gap allowing fluid to literally pour out.

Breather hoses are good and have stock shafts. I think it's just the seal but have a feeling it might be time to take things completely apart and see where I am at.
It may or may not be a coincidence but this didn't happen until I removed the front prop/drive shaft to take in for balancing and new ujoints...drove for a week without the front propshaft...most likely coincidence.

Thanks!
Erik

I’d say coincidence about running without the front driveshaft.

The only thing I’ve seen a few times is -- soon after replacing upper/lower balljoints, the front axle seal goes bad and starts leaking. It’s usually because all the banging about and hammering required to remove the impossible to remove balljoints -- this jostling damages the aged/high mileage seal. (This is why I now replace axle seals as part of front ball joint jobs).
