Default Front End high pich clunk

When I hit a bump I hear a high pitch clunk coming from the front drivers side wheel (clink noise). This front drivers side wheel has also felt like it rattles just a little (while driving) on and off over the past few months. Are these the signs of a bad hub/wheel bearing?

wheel bearing is a bad squeaking sound (metal on metal), it will make noise regardless of a bump. it's constant, almost embarrassing sounding, hehe esp when the bearings get real bad and need re-greased/replaced.

take the wheel off and have a look. inspect everything and look for anything binding or lose.

the wheel itself should not be "lose", regardless of anything that is wrong.

also whats the tire tread look like on that wheel compared to the drivers side?

More likely ball joints.

WHAT? Long before anything like squeaking wheel bearings howl at speed. If it gets to the point where it's squeaking, you've destroyed not only the bearings but the races too, and are really close to having a wheel just fall off.

I have heard many cars pull up beside me with bearings gone to ****. People do not grease them and yes, then you have the replace the races as well. lol

He asked about the bearings, I was just say'n!

You cannot replace the bearings on a D2 anyway, only a D1. You have to replace the hub assembly on a D2 I think. Another plus factor for the D1....hehe...I replaced them on an old Ford Ranger I owned...talk about a dirty job....

"Signs of a failing ball joint start with a clicking or snapping sound when the wheel is turned and eventually turns into a squeaking sound at the end of a stop, when the gas pedal is used and/or also when hitting bumps. Another symptom could be 'thud' noises coming from front suspension when going over bumps."

I think Daryl is correct.

You are hearing worn brakes, not bearings.

And repacking existing hub bearings is NOT normal maintenance in any way shape or form.

Nope bearings. Bearings make a different sound. Brakes are a heavy more obvious sound, pad metal backing on rotor...

And repacking bearings with grease is maintenance Darlyn depending on the car/truck make and model (not for the D2 since it's a packaged/sealed hub assembly). Not sure why your arguing that. You only have to replace the bearings when you forget to check/repack them with grease over the ownership maintenance of the vehicle....
