Default Front Prop Shaft U-Joints

What's the best grease to use for these? Mine need to be greased, as they haven't been in awhile. What do you guys use?

I like the green colored synthetic grease, you can buy it at many parts stores and farm supply stores, it is also water and ferilizer resistant.

I just realized that in 10,000 miles the u-joints have been greased once. Is it just time to have the front propshaft rebuilt?

Also, I have 3 grease fittings on mine. One on each joint. Do I need an upgrade?

I use termalene. Its kind of thicker, and I don't know where exactly to get it aside from military supply shop. They use it on rudders of submarines. Its excellent in water crossings.

Military grade lube. Nice.

Just buy the best grease you can and it should be synthetic.
Also, you should have a total of 6 or 7 fittings and grease them twice a year or at every oil change.

Thanks guys. And Mike, if I don't have that many fittings, is it probably time to get a new shaft?

Here's pix of the part where the extra fitting are usually missing from the factory on the front shaft. You can rebuild it, have it rebuilt, or buy a new one. If you just have a patio and a couple of hammers it may be time to farm this job out.

You should have 1 per u-joint (3 front, 1 rear) and 1 for each slip joint (1 per shaft)...so that's 6 total unless I forgot one somewhere.
