I all likelihood, the u-joints went out. Instead of fixing the shaft, they just took it off and locked the center locking differential. Check for damage around the tranny and the out put flange on the transfer case. If the driveshaft goes when the car is moving, especially at freeway speeds, all sorts of damage can be done. Order up a new/used driveshaft with the rebuilt u-joints and double carden joint. For serious off-roading the Tom Woods is recommended. There is also a shop in Georgia as I recall that has them ready and can ship one right out for less than $300. You can aslo find a driveshaft and have it rebuilt for about $160. Install is relatively easy, 4 nuts and bolts on each end.

Caution! Do not forget to UNLOCK the center locking differential when you put in the new driveshaft! Check for writeups, there are many. Good luck. Phil
