Driving without front propeller shaft?
I need to rebuild my front propeller shaft...
Is it possible to remove the front propeller shaft and drive with only the rear propeller shaft? or does removing the front prop shaft make it completely undrivable even for short duration, "urgent", unplanned trips etc?
I just want to know how screwed I'll be if rebuilding my front prop shaft takes longer than I expected, or if I need to get to the auto parts store, or if I need to drive my kid to the ER for stitches etc etc...
Thanks,
Thomas

Have not done that, but did see a Disco being towed on the intersate with a tow dolly, front wheels off the pavement, and rear shaft disconnected. Wonder if you get better fuel milage with the front shaft off?
I drove without mind for a couple of weeks while it was being rebuilt..seemed ok at first but then the front diff starting making a popping noise on acceleration/deceleration ..luckily the shaft was ready by then and I reinstalled it. I do not think it did any permanent damage.
I seemed to get about 1mpg better fuel mileage
