fuel capacity
I have a 96 D1 SE7 (manual), and have read that the fuel tank capacity is around 23 gallons.
However, if I fill it up when the needle on the gauge is around "E", it only takes about 15 gallons!
Is my gauge inaccurate, or is the tank smaller than I thought?

i am not sure, i read on here that you had 23 gallons. http://www.edmunds.com/used/1996/lan...566/specs.html
Did the previous owner replace the gas tank?

Where are you located benfbi ? From my recollection, therewere no 3.5 L models imported to North America. The first ones were model year'94 with 3.9 L V8and fuel tank cap. of 89 L.
Yes, I keep finding that 23.5 gallons is the number for the D1.
however, i recall the previous owner saying the gastank had been replaced.
Looks to have an 18 gallon capacity. Any idea what vehicle this could be from?

on a related note, suddenly I can't get my Disco II to "fill up". I let it go down to empty and the fuel warning light comes on. I put gas in it and only get to about 16 gallons before the fuel pump cuts me off because of the back pressure. My fuel gauge shows me as having about 3/4 of a tank but I can't force any more in so it must be full.
Sounds like your fuel level sensor in the tank may be failing. Check you miles driven before refilling and see if you are only driving the eqivelant of only 16 gals or 24.
