Default Fuel Gauge Question

I've noticed my fuel gauge pin starts to climb as I am driving. It rarely will not rise up, and then will pop up, but have not seen that in a while.

Is this indicative of anything? Is it time for a new pump mechanism or is it a normal kind of thing?

Most likely the feed wire to the fuel sender (in tank) is coming in contact with a ground, through corrosion on the terminal. Would be where I'd start, if checks out good...might be gauge in dash or wiring.

Fuel gauge was my last project before I completed fixing my 2003 DII. I had some intermittent misfires, and fuel gauge would either stay at empty with the low fuel light on, or at 3/4 full. I purchased a new Bosch from Autohaus AZ at a cost of $269, installed it, misfires gone, and fuel indicator now perfect. I did a write-up on how to swap a Duscovery II fuel pump in less than an hour...search and check it out!

NOTE: Be sure to confirm your pump has sending unit

Thanks guys! Is this indicative of imminent failure?
