Default Fuel Indicator

I have a 2001 disco with 85,000 on it. Filled the tank yesterday and while driving it today I noticed the fuel indicator read about 5/8`s a tank full. I only ran about 44 miles since. I thought thieves were at hand. So I filled the tank today and it only took about 4 gallons.
Anybody have any ideas? Cost?
Thanks in advance

It is most likely the fuel sender unit attached to the fuel pump, sometimes they will correct them selved, otherwise the pump has to be replaced, somewhere around $400.
Give it awhile and see if it gets better.

Just an update. No change in the fuel indicator acting wacky. I`ll just fill up when the trip Odometer hits 300 miles. No sense replacing anything until I have too!
