I think with Land Rovers the major service starts the minute you drive out of the dealer.

Full synthetic in my 03' with 50740 miles on it. Tried Royal Purple, Mobil One and finally settled on Rotella T6... it's responded best to it. Synthetic oil in the differentials and transfer case too. Do I have leaks... occasionally. I replaced both valve cover gaskets but possibly only needed the bolts tightened come to find out. Either way they are replaced with Loctite on the threads. I have an oil leak near the front cover but nothing that leaves spots everywhere to the point of having to add oil... for now.

Check out Mike's thread on the 60,000 mile service and see if there's anything you can go ahead and do that might be a good preventative measure.
Yes. Very lucky. I have an 01 with 68k on it and a blown head gasket.

Capt., why are you taking it to a shop, do it your self, save money and learn more about what makes your truck tick. Also, shops use junk, cheap oil filter, defeating the whole concept of putting good oil in the engine.

So true, for the past 7 years I have never used some body elses oil or filter. I do take my car to them if I don't have time to do it myself, but I bring my own oil and filter.

Default 04 Disco

Hello, new to the Land Rover World. I just bought a 04 Disco which had a new engine put in. It only has 71,700 miles on it. I think the engine might be a rebuilt or one from another vehicle. It's under a year warranty. Should I start running synthetic/synthetic blend in it? I would appreciate the guidance.

04 Disco II,
Racing Green
Stock...for now...

Yes, start using the oil we recommend, Shell Rotella 5w-40 for the winter time, 15w-40 for the summer.

I'm running mobile 1 high mileage. I resealed mine last year and its still holding. I can park it on concrete all day and not leave a spot. I will agree that makes it an oddity amongst discos.
