Default Funky door lock & ignition issue

See if you can figure this one out:
The front passenger door locks you in if you attempt to open the door before the ignition is turned off. You have to open the door using the outside handle after this occurs... my wife likes it because it forces me to be a gentleman and open the door for her... it doesn't look so good when I have to do it for one of the fellas.

The locks and handles work normally in any other situation... front passenger is the only one that responds this way when the ignition is still on.

I haven't found another problem like this after searching the board... any advice?

Hit the door unlock button and it unlocks all the doors... you even hear something from the front passenger door, but it doesn't unlock it. It will unlock that door anytime the ignition is not on.

Pull the inside handle and the door locks if the key is turned to the on position... it stays locked until it is opened from the outside, regardless of what buttons you push... manual unlock doesn't budge.

I still can't figure out why pulling the inside handle while the ignition is on would lock the door until opened from the outside... my only guess is a gremlin at this point.

I'll be going in to check it out this weekend.
