Default Fuse box cables

On the front side of the fuse box (that is to say the side nearest the front of the vehicle) there are two heavy gauge cables, the diagram on the lid of the fuse box has one labeled as ALT and the other has a battery symbol. Where do these cables go exactly? One clearly goes to the battery terminal but the other goes in to a harness and I’m guessing that it goes to the alternator. Aren’t all of those things already electrically connected together, why two separate cables?

From the RAVE manual...
"Battery charging is accomplished on an N wire from the alternator/generator
through fusible link 1 in the engine compartment fusebox, and from fusible link
1 to the battery positive terminal on an R wire."
