Default Gasket Sealant Advice

Saw my shipping status and the cylinder head gasket kit will arrive tomorrow. Please advise if I need any sealant to purchase today for any gaskets. Thanks

This is my favorite gasket sealant....for water pumps, tappet covers, intake manifold, etc.

Head gaskets shouldn't need any sealant. But, check...I've seen some head gaskets that do need a small dab around coolant ports...but this is unusual.

My understanding is that head gaskets should go on DRY, or maybe with some Permatex Copper Spray a gasket. I'm debating myself to go dry or copper.

As for other places, Right Stuff Gasket maker is popular. I also ordered myself a tube of Hylomar PL32 Aerograde for the bottom end and front cover.

The three sealants called for in the manual and substitutes...
STC 50550 -> Loctite 5900 or Right Stuff
STC 50554 -> Loctite 648
STC 50552 -> Loctite 243

Also Permatex High Tack Spray (the pink stuff) to hold valve cover gaskets in place is a good idea.

Thanks for identifying those substitutes. I'm about to start putting my HG and all the other gaskets back on.
